Oct. 11: How The Star is reshaping its newsroom and fully embracing its digital future

The Star, like all print media, has seen big changes and trying times over the last few years. Several veteran reporters and editors are gone, but there are some new faces on staff helping to balance out recent lay-offs and buy-outs.

Oct. 12: New Pros Happy Hour: Puppies, Pints and PR

Helping furry friends is a full-time focus for animal welfare organizations such as Great Plains SPCA and KC Pet Project, and it takes a special sort of human to share the countless stories that range from heartwarming to heartbreaking. At this New Pros event, we'll gather in the biergarten at KC Bier Co. to hear paws-itively inspiring tales (or tails).

  • Wednesday, Oct. 12: 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • KC Bier Co, 310 W. 79th St., KCMO
  • $15 for GKC-PRSA members; $20 for nonmembers (After 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, prices increase $5.)
  • Each attendee will get a FREE flight of four beers to sample from KC Bier Co.

About GKC-PRSA

The Greater Kansas City PRSA chapter is a community of public relations and communications professionals across the Kansas City area, from recent college graduates to leaders of some of the largest firms, agencies and non-profits. Our members represent nearly every practice area and professional and academic setting within the public relations field.

In addition, we support students from across the Midwest who are members of their campus Public Relations Student Society of America chapters.

We currently have more than 200 members and hold regular professional development luncheons to enhance our professional growth. Our chapter also boasts signature events, such as our annual PRISM Awards gala honoring the year’s best in communications excellence and our full-day, interactive student event, our PRSSA Summit. At GKC-PRSA our mission is to be the professional resource and advocate for Kansas City’s PR and Communications community.

GKC-PRSA members and guests enjoy networking at our comfortable, friendly events.
