C is for Community

Nationally, PRSA has turned to a trusted resource to create memorable and conversational strategic pillars for 2011. Its A, B, C, D and E are Advocacy, the Business case for public relations, Community, Diversity and three E's (education, ethics and excellence in society management.)
Some who know me will say that it's not surprising that I would skip A and B to go straight to C, but I believe that the community is rightfully in the center of those strategic pillars. Community serves as a focal point for the Kansas City Chapter's rallying cry. For the second year, we are focusing on "Give. Grow. Get" as a way to engage existing members and attract prospective members to the chapter.
Among our 2011 plans is giving back to our community through our talents. Last year, we brainstormed ideas and provided strategic direction to The Rose Brooks Center, and we're currently working on plans to develop a community relations project in 2011.
Growth opportunities are available through our communities, such as New Pros, Solo Pros and Senior Pros by providing networking opportunities and education to become better PR professionals and better businesspeople.
Our community isn't isolated. In 2011, we'll continue connecting with others in similar professions through Kansas City Clubs United, which will provide opportunities to our members throughout the year.
And we can all stay tuned here through the chapter's new website. The site provides increased functionality and localizes information about the chapter. You can become an integral part of the online community by logging on and creating your profile.
I'll see you around the community.
