Disaster Relief in Japan #SXSW Style

I'm still processing what happened in Japan on Friday.
The images from the earthquake and tsunami are stunning. And the recovery has just begun.
I've set up this fundraising page to help the American Red Cross raise money for disaster relief.
So what does that have to do with South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi), the tech conference underway in Austin, Texas?
This Website is run on a platform created by Cause Vox, a start up in NYC that helps non-profits with online fundraising. Rob Wu with Cause Vox worked with web consultant Leigh Durst to set it up.
Rob and Leigh got the idea when they woke up on Friday morning to the news of the earthquake and tsunami. They've set the goal of raising $25,000 during SXSWi from attendees. That's what I love about technology -- it really can lead to immediate social action.
Well, I'm not in Austin this year, but I see no reason why I can't help.
I've set a goal to raise $200 as part of this SXSWi effort. All funds raised will go directly to the American Red Cross for use in direct disaster assistance on the ground in Japan. Cause Vox does not take a cut. (They're covering the credit card processing fees from Amex, Mastercard and Visa.)
I'm asking you to give $5 toward my effort. Instead of a latte at Starbucks this weekend or if you're in Austin -- a taco from Torchy's -- give that five bucks to help the people in Japan who have lost their homes in this tragedy.
Thank you.

At SXSW this year, there's a lot of discussion and debate about influence. Now it's time to stand up and be truly influential as we raise support for tsunami relief. Japan faces one of its most devastating natural disasters in 100 years. On March 11, walls of water swept across rice fields, engulfing towns, dragging houses onto highways, tossing cars and boats like toys and consuming lives. The potential human loss is unimaginable, with thousands missing and early reports of hundreds reported dead. Aftershocks and additional earthquakes continue to threaten the region, sending shock waves across the nation and the world. The CauseVox team will cover the cost of the transaction fees so 100 percent of your donation goes to the American Red Cross.
