Carrie StapletonAs an African American woman and PR professional and as someone who was acquainted with Dr. Inez Kaiser, I am proud that our Chapter is initiating this Scholarship.

When I worked with Mrs. Kaiser many years ago, I wasn't aware of all of her accomplishments and I must say that I am truly wowed by the many firsts that she attained. This is why I think it's important to highlight her work on advising two U.S. Presidents on Black women business owners' issues that women like myself are confronted with on a daily basis.

A recent Forbes article stated that Black female business owners were the fastest group starting businesses, far outpacing other racial and ethnic groups, until Covid happened. Also, until Covid, our State of Missouri led with the most African American women opening businesses.

However, Black women entrepreneurs are in a constant state of uncertainty due to issues like the lack of access to capital, biases in the business world, networking challenges, and other obstacles. This is why Mrs. Kaiser's work with the Presidents seemed and still remains so important to me. I just wish we had other Inez Kaisers to look out for us Black women business owners, championing and supporting our causes.

Civil rights activist Malcolm X stated in 1962, and I paraphrase, that the most disrespected, unprotected and most neglected woman in America is the Black Woman. And, that it seems, remains so, still today.
